General Manager 

  • Member Supported & Member Owned, the Sierra Vista Food Co-op is more than just a grocery store, it is a community. Since its formation in 2005, the SVFC has grown and evolved into a space for workshops, natural-food education, and a supporter of locally owned farmers and vendors.
  • We are seeking the next General Manager to lead our member-owned co-op and continue its mission of serving the Sierra Vista community. The General Manager is a full-time position to implement the Co-op vision with guidance from member-elected Board of Directors. 
  • Our ideal candidate will have experience in providing positive, compassionate leadership, a customer service background, and be familiar with the cooperative business model as a core value. 
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to foster communication and cooperation among all stake-holders. They will be committed to the growth and financial health of the Co-op and able to handle a diverse workload.  This is an excellent opportunity for a talented candidate to develop and grow alongside our Cooperative. About Sierra Vista Co-op 

Sierra Vista Food Co-op is a member-owned grocery store in Sierra Vista, Arizona dedicated to supporting the community and emphasizes a high-quality diverse selection of sustainable local, natural and organic products while promoting health and well-being. 

Job Responsibilities 

The General Manager, who is based in Sierra Vista, Arizona, and reports to the Board of Directors, is responsible for the following: 

  • Ongoing duties:
    • Collaborate with the BOD (Board of Directors) on monthly and annual budgets, reporting and ongoing performance metrics
    • Set measurable objectives for all managers and review reports with managers on a regular basis
    • Participate in regional and national co-op and industry organizations;
  • Finance: 
    • Ensure regular and accurate financial reports of current operations and future plans;
    • Manage daily receipts, expenditures and cash flow planning;
    • Submit federal and state tax reports to Board for approval;
    • Approve capital expenditures within budget;
  • Operations: 
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws for business licenses, permits, health regulations, labor laws, etc.;
    • Ensure adequate insurance for co-op and maintain security of building, equipment, inventory, staff and customers;
  • Marketing and member services: 
    • Develop and collaborate on plans for a positive public image and in-store image;
    • Oversee advertising program;
    • Work with Board and staff to implement membership increase and involvement in programs and capital share programs;
  • Human resources: 
    • Hire, evaluate and compensate designated staff.
    • Develop performance measures, processes and tools and update as needed.
    • Provide regular feedback to staff members, managing accountability for all aspects of job performance.
    • Manage end of employment processes appropriately
  • Other
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


We’re seeking candidates who excel in relationship building, are results oriented, and have strong project management skills. You should have: 

  • A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of stakeholders; 
  • A demonstrated commitment to meeting or exceeding high standards and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles; 
  • Experience managing multiple projects and the ability to oversee a team of 15-25 team members, volunteers, and consultants. 
  • Experience working with the governing principles of the cooperative model is preferred, but not necessary.
